DOVER Leon E. Wherley, Jr., 86, entered into rest Sunday, February 9, 2014 at York Hospital. He was the loving husband of Fern L. (Shoemaker) Wherley. They were married 66 years. Leon was a son of the late Leon E. and Ellen J. (Brenneman) Wherley. He was a self-employed contractor and member of Dover Bethany U.M. Church. Leon's hobby was antique car parts and he was also known as Captain Mopar by many car enthusiasts. In addition to his wife, he is survived by four children, Donna Grove, Kathy Lamparter, Nanlouise Harcourt, and James Wherley; nine grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; a sister, Bernice Gross; and numerous nieces and nephews. Leon was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Ellen Wherley, two brothers and a sister. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Leon's funeral at 2 p.m. and the viewing from 1to 2 p.m. on Thursday at Dover Bethany U.M. Church, 4510 Bull Rd., Dover. Burial will follow in Salem Union Cemetery. Officiating will be his pastor, the Rev. Salvatore Buonocore, and Leon's nephew, Pastor Barry Miller.
