YORK Lester W. Bentz, Jr., 87, went to be with his Lord unexpectedly at home on November 26, 2013. He was the husband of Kathryn "Doodle" (Kirschner) Bentz for 57 years. He was born on January 19, 1926, to the late Lester W. Bentz, Sr. and Kathryn (Brown) Bentz. Lester graduated from William Penn Senior High School in 1944 and following a brief stint in the U.S. Army, attended the University of Pennsylvania (Wharton School). Following his graduation in the Class of 1948, he worked for Paul Zeigler Real Estate Co. In 1950, he opened the Lester W. Bentz Real Estate office which he continued to operate until his death. He was a member of Advent Lutheran Church and served on numerous committees. He was a member of the Realtors Association of York and Adams Counties, Past President and Board Member of the York Credit Bureau, life member of the Advisory Board of the Salvation Army, Past Secretary/Treasurer of the Central Market House, Past President of the York Downtown Lions Club with a 50-year perfect attendance and Past President of the York County Chamber of Commerce. He was also Past President of the following: Greenmount Cemetery Association, Children's Growth & Development Committee, and the 4th Congressional District Internship Assoc. Masonic affiliations included: York Blue Lodge #266, F. & A.M., Harrisburg Consistory, York Co. Shrine Club, Tall Cedars of Lebanon, and Zembo Temple. In addition to his wife, Kathryn "Doodle", he is survived by three daughters, Kathryn Schwartz, Barbara and her husband David Hogg, and Leslie Bentz, all of York; a brother, the Rev. Carl and his wife Fair Bentz of York; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister, Ethel Mae Judd and his son-in-law, John Schwartz. Lester cherished his four grandchildren, Katie and John Schwartz, and Michael and Matthew Hogg. A memorial service will be held Saturday, November 30, 2013 at 11 a.m. at Advent Lutheran Church, 1775 E. Market St., York, with his pastors, the Rev. David L. Ritterpusch and the Rev. Brenda M. Ritterpusch, officiating. A private burial will be held in Greenmount Cemetery prior to the memorial service. Visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. at Owens Hall of the church.
