Zimmerman YORK Louise M. (Boeckel) Zimmerman, 81, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, December 26, 2012. She was the wife of Richard V. Zimmerman, who passed away December 9, 2010. Born in Jacobus, on February 24, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Curvin H. and Myrtle P. (Shearer) Boeckel. Louise was a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend, but to those privileged enough to know her, she was also much more. Louise dedicated her life to nurturing others. Whether cooking a warm meal, mending a torn shirt, making a compassionate phone call, or just offering a helping hand, her devotion to those she loved was immeasurable. When help was needed, Louise took her elderly mother, disabled aunt, and mother-in-law under her wing. She cared for them through the toughest of times, offering them the warmth and safety that eventually came to exemplify her life. Louise would extend this hospitality to everyone she knew, becoming the glue that held her friends and family together. Louise was employed by Myers Salads & Pastries in York, where she baked pies and pastries until her retirement. She was a member of New Fairview Church of the Brethren, where she attended services for many years. In her spare time, Louise enjoyed cooking, sewing, Sudoku, crosswords, and making braided rugs. Louise especially enjoyed entertaining guests, and prepared many meals for family and friends throughout her years. As a time-honored tradition, Louise hosted a Christmas feast the day before her passing. She was overjoyed to spend the holiday with those she loved most, and to spend her final days doing what she loved most - caring for others. Mrs. Zimmerman is survived by a daughter, Kathy L. Geesey and her husband, Ray of Red Lion; and a son, Keith A. Zimmerman of Seven Valleys. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Kimberly M. Albert and her husband, Nick, Rebecca S. Zimmerman and her companion, Brian Magar, Sgt. Aaron R. Zimmerman, and Amy L. Zimmerman and her companion, Rajesh Srinivasan; and a great-grandchild, Gage. She was predeceased by a grandson, Jonathan E. Zimmerman. A service to celebrate the life of Mrs. Zimmerman will be held on Wednesday, January 2, 2013, at 11 a.m. at the New Fairview Church of the Brethren, 1873 New Fairview Church Road, York 17403-4942 with the Rev. Dale Markey and Rev. Paul Bentzel officiating. A viewing will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in the New Fairview Church of the Brethren Cemetery, York.
