Martha Guise Obituary

YORK Martha Romaine Guise, 88, died on Wednesday March 21, 2012, at the residence of her daughter and son-in-law, Beverly R. and David Cockerham, in Ocean City, N.J. She was the wife of the late William R. Guise. Born in York, on November 28, 1923, she was the daughter of the late John E. and Martha (Ziegler) Smith. Romaine was a 1940 graduate of William Penn Senior High School and a graduate of Thompson's Business College. She was a member of Faith United Church of Christ. She had been a member of Postman's Union Local # 509 Ladies Auxiliary and the Postman's Valley Home Association of Druck Valley. She was a United States Navy veteran of World War II. She served in the WAVES and was honorably discharged as a Pharmacist's Mate Third Class in 1946. In the WAVES she was stationed at Bethesda, Md., Philadelphia, and Washington, D.C. In addition to her daughter, Beverly, and son-in-law, David, she is survived by two sons, Barry R. Guise and his wife, Lynn of Calabash, N.C., and Brian R. Guise and his wife, Cindy of York; four grandchildren, Carolyn R. Master, Jonathan P. Guise, Andrew B. Cockerham, and Holly L. Kisby; one great-granddaughter, Dakota R. Cockerham; and five sisters, Pauline Jamison of Dover, Miriam Mentz of York, Verna Zeltwanger of Exmore, Va., Anna Catherine Guise of York, and Linda Silar of Rocky Mount, N.C. She was preceded in death by a sister, Jeanette Emig. A funeral service will be held on Monday, March 26, 2012, at 11 a.m. at the Etzweiler Funeral Home, 1111 E. Market St., York, with her pastor, the Rev. Ron Olerich, officiating. Burial will be in Mount Rose Cemetery. A visitation with the family will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. on Monday at the funeral home.
