YORK Dr. Martin James Hoffman died at 1:45 p.m. on Sunday, February 10, 2013 at Memorial Hospital. Born November 29, 1923 in Windber, Pennsylvania, son of the late Samuel Hoffman and the late Rachel Kelly Hoffman, Martin has rejoined his wife of 58 years, the late Mary Jane Blake Hoffman. Martin graduated from Richland Township High School, University of Pittsburgh, and the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1952. He completed his internship at West Side Hospital in 1953. Dr. Hoffman was a member of the professional staff at Memorial Hospital for 40 years. He had a general practice at 1359 N. George St and 2170 Susquehanna Trail N., North York. Martin served in the Army as a medical corpsman in Belgium and Corsica during World War II. He was a member of Messiah United Methodist Church, the North York Lions Club, and the Masons. He is survived by a son, Martin James II and his wife Jane Goodwin Hoffman of Darnestown, Md., and by a daughter, Crystal Hoffman Newton of Snowmass, Colo., a granddaughter, Erin R. Hoffman; and a grandson Steven J. Hoffman. Martin is survived by one sister, Viola Moody of Arlington, Texas, and was preceded in death by eight brothers and one sister. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, February 15 at Normandie Ridge, 1700 Normandie Drive, York , with the Reverend Walter officiating.
