RED LION Mervin "John" H. Heffner, 74, entered into rest after a brief illness at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, February 21, 2013, at Manor Care South. He was the husband of Nancy R. (Craley) Heffner. He was born in York, on December 20, 1938, and was the son of the late Mervin L. and Viola P. (Strayer) Heffner. John was a cabinet maker at the former Kapri Kitchens in Dallastown, retiring after 34 years of service. He was a longtime and active member of the Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church (East End) in Red Lion, where he was a former Trustee. He was also a member of the Susquehanna Senior Center, where he and Nancy helped deliver meals to others. In addition to his wife, Nancy, John is survived by a son, Michael J. Heffner of Red Lion and his wife, Kathy; two grandchildren, Kyrstin Heffner and Jonathon Heffner, both of Red Lion; two sisters, Delores Parlett of Red Lion and Linda Joines of Stewartstown; four brothers, Denton Heffner of Red Lion, Robert Heffner of Felton, Palmer Heffner of Red Lion, and Bruce Heffner of Red Lion; a sister-in-law, Darlene Kann of York; brother-in-law, Loy Craley of Red Lion; and several nieces and nephews. There will be a viewing from 9 to 10 a.m. Tuesday, February 26, at Pleasant Grove (East End) U.M. Church, 900 Pleasant Grove Road, Red Lion. The service will begin at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the church with his pastor, the Rev. Phyllis A. Hunter, officiating. Burial will be at Pleasant Grove Cemetery. Burg Funeral Home, Inc., 134 W. Broadway, Red Lion, is handling the arrangements. John was a wonderful husband. He and Nancy married on January 25, 1964, celebrating 49 years together. He was a great father to Michael and grandfather. He was a very kind and patient man who loved to work with wood and loved building things for others. His family was always first in his life and anyone who knew and loved him will miss him greatly.
