ETTERS Michael Jon McCobin, 57, passed away in his home on October 3, 2013. He was born on December 10, 1955, son of Michael and Estelle (Czupich) McCobin. He graduated valedictorian from Garnet Valley High School in 1973 in Glen Mills, PA, and with honors from Penn State University in 1977 with a B.S. in economics. He was retired after spending his career as a bank examiner for the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation. He was a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association and the White Ash Land Association, but he cannot be defined simply by his involvement in organizations. He believed deeply in the pursuit of knowledge and engaged in both formal educational opportunities and personal studies throughout his life. A loving father, avid scuba diver, dedicated sportsman, and bibliophile, he is well remembered for his strong opinions and spirited defense of what he believed to be right. He is survived by his two children, Alexander and Allison McCobin, and large family, including his three brothers, Brandan, David, and Mark McCobin. A small honoring for him will be held on Wednesday, October 9th at the headquarters of one of the nonprofit organizations he cared passionately about, the Cato Institute, in Washington, DC. A private service to remember his life will be held by the family in Sullivan County. In lieu of flowers, please send a donation in his memory to the Cato Institute (cato.org). For more information, please contact Alexander McCobin.
