Paul D. Welsh Jr. Obituary
WRIGHTSVILLE Paul D. Welsh, Jr., 86, died Thursday, January 3, 2013, at his residence. He was the husband of Vale (McFarland) Welsh, with whom he observed their 64th wedding anniversary on September 18, 2012. Born August 28, 1926, in West York, he was the son of the late Martha (Jacobs) and Paul Welsh, Sr. Paul was employed as an accountant for W.S. Frey, Co., where he had been employed for 53 years. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of WWII where he served on a sub-chaser. Paul was a 1944 graduate of West York High School. He continued his education at Thompson's Business School and later in life he graduated from York College with a Bachelor of Science in accounting. He was a member of Canadochly Lutheran Church, where he served as treasurer for 39 years, taught Sunday School, and served on the church council. He was a member of the East Prospect Lions Club since 1972. Paul was past president in 1975 and served as secretary for 32 years. He was a recipient of the Melvin Jones Award. Paul was a member of the Shiloh American Legion, a member of Riverside Lodge # 503 F. & A.M. for 50 years, a member of Tall Cedars of Lebanon for 50 years, and was a lifelong member of the Vikings Club. He was a previous member of the Eastern York School Board, serving as treasurer. One of his hobbies was oil painting. Paul was a devoted and loving husband, father, and grandfather. He enjoyed time with his family and friends. In addition to his wife, Paul is survived by three daughters, Robin C. Welsh and her husband, Gary Utterback of Maryland, Kim L. Leber and her husband, Lance of Spring Grove, and Vickie L. Anspach and her husband, Jim of Columbia; his grandchildren, David and Adam Leber and Aaron and Tara Anspach; and a nephew, Ronnie Welsh. He was preceded in death by a brother, Ronald Welsh. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, January 8, 2013, at Canadochly Lutheran Church, 4921 East Prospect Road, York, with his pastor, the Rev. Allen M. Schwarz, officiating. Burial will be in Susquehanna Memorial Gardens with full military rites by the York County Veterans Honor Guard. A viewing will be held from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the church.
