YORK Raymond E. Runkle, 87, entered into rest after a brief illness on Saturday, September 21, 2013, at 6:36 a.m. at York Hospital. He was the husband of Dorothy E. (King) Runkle of York. He was born in York on August 19, 1926, the son of the late Jesse Cletus and Theresa May (Schroll) Runkle. Raymond was a machine operator at York Shipley, retiring in 1986 after 20 years of service. He was a member of York First Church of God. In addition to his wife Dorothy of York, he leaves to cherish his memory numerous nieces and nephews and brothers and sisters-in-law. He was preceded in death by a son-, Terry E. Runkle on March 12, 1962; and by 10 siblings. There will be a viewing on Thursday from 9 to 10 a.m. at Burg Funeral Home, Inc., 134 W. Broadway, Red Lion. A Service of Honor and Praise for Raymond will begin on Thursday at 10 a.m. at the funeral home, his pastor, Glenn A. Detter, will officiate. Burial will be in Bethel United Methodist Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be offered to: York First Church of God, 503 Vander Ave., York, PA 17403. Raymond was happily married to Dorothy for 70 years. After his retirement, they moved to Florida where they resided for several years then moved again to South Carolina for a few years and just recently moved back to Pennsylvania, residing in York.
