YORK Robert K. Shaffer, 68, died at 7:15 a.m. on Thursday, February 21, 2013, at Manor Care Health Services Kingston Court. He was the husband of Linda D. (Dunlap) Shaffer, with whom he celebrated their 43rd wedding anniversary on November 1, 2012. Following cremation with Workinger-Semmel F.H. & Crematorium, Inc., York, a private graveside service was held at 1 p.m. yesterday at Greenmount Cemetery with his associate pastor, the Rev. Allison J. Beaulieu, and the Rev. Steven M. Livermore, pastor of Pleasureville U.M. Church, officiating. Military honors were given by the York County Veterans Honor Guard. Mr. Shaffer was born July 26, 1944, in Hanover, and was the son of the late Rev. Richard E. and Anna Mae (Nace) Shaffer. He was a plant office operations specialist with Columbia Gas, a U.S. Air Force veteran serving during the Vietnam War, a graduate of Spring Grove H.S. Class of ' 62, attended Parsons College in Fairfield, Iowa, and was a member and past deacon of First Presbyterian Church of York. Mr. Shaffer is survived by his wife; a daughter, Rebecca L. Holder and husband, Jeffrey of Dover; a son, Richard E. Shaffer of York; two granddaughters, Rowen and Rhys Holder; and his beloved canine companion, Emmett. He was preceded in death by his beloved companions, Champ, Wally, Mossie, and Sienna. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the York County SPCA, 3159 Susquehanna Trail North, York, PA 17406.
