YORK Ruth E. (Brown) Hicks, 85, died on Tuesday, October 2, 2012, at Pleasant Acres Nursing Home in York. She was the wife of the late Joseph B. Hicks, former editor of the York edition of the York Sunday News. They were married for 32 years before his death in 1980. Ruth was born July 11, 1927, in Lineboro, Md., and was the daughter of the late William Henry Brown and Anna (Menchey) Brown. She was a graduate of Codorus Township High School in Glenville, class of 1945. She is survived by two sons, Larry A. Hicks of York and Stephan W. Hicks of York; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Marjorie Trump of Hanover; three brothers, William A. "Sonny" Brown of Hanover, Thomas "Gene" Brown of Medford OR, Donald Brown of Hanover; and 21 nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Phyllis Brown Bollinger, Janet Brown Bollinger; her brother, Norman Brown; two nephews and one niece. A funeral service in celebration of her life will be held on Friday at 10 a.m. at Saint Paul Lutheran Church, 250 Trinity Rd., York, with Rev. Sara and Paul Gausmann officiating. She will be laid to rest following the service at St. Paul (Wolf's) Cemetery in York. A viewing will be held on Friday from 9 to 10 a.m. in the church parlor.
