DOVER Sara Jean (Sheffer) Newcomer, 85, went to be with her Lord Jesus from Winchester Medical Center on Tuesday, September 17, 2013. She was the wife of Mearl C. Newcomer, whom she married on October 15, 1945. She was born in Manchester on September 23, 1927, the daughter of the late G. Harrold Sheffer and Ida A. (Bupp) Ellwein. Sara was a homemaker. In addition to her husband, Mearl, she is survived by four children, Darla A. Liddle and husband Jim of York, Rebecca S. Snelbecker and husband, Bob of Dover, Brian M. Newcomer and wife, Jody of Lost River, W.Va., and Robyn A. Cox and companion, Chris Staner of York; 11 grandchildren, Stefanie Crone, Blake Gross, Ben Snelbecker, Jereme Gross, Joanna Hamme, Brett Newcomer, Sara Newcomer, Jarrod Newcomer, Brooke Wealand, Tia Cox and Tessa Cox; numerous great grandchildren; four sisters, Rita Erney, Flo Euculano, Cheryl Clouser, and Marilyn Moore; and serveral nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two sons, Keith A. and Kevin B. Newcomer; and a brother, Harrold Sheffer. There will be no viewing. A memorial service of Honor and Praise will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Calvary Evangelical Lutheran Church, Dover. Family and friends are invited to extend their condolences from 11 to 11:30 a.m., with The Rev. John M. Woods officiating. Burial will be in Suburban Memorial Gardens at the convenience of the family. Burg Funeral Home, Inc., 134 W. Broadway, Red Lion, is handling the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be offered to: York Rescue Mission, P.O. Box 1968, York, PA 17401. Sara loved to cook, read, and do crossword puzzles. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother who loved to spend time with her family. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.
