Rev.  Susan S. Baer Obituary
YORK The Rev. Susan "Shelley" S. Baer, 67, died Monday, February 24, 2014, at ManorCare Health Services - South. She is survived by her husband, Dennis L. Shoemaker, whom she married May 19, 2007. She was born September 22, 1946, in Frederick, Md., and was the daughter of the late Col. Malcolm R. and Mary Jane (Lundgren) Baer. A memorial service will begin at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 22, 2014, at Grace Memorial Episcopal Church, Darlington, Md., with the Rev. Nancy Dilliplane and the Rev. Allen C. Spicer, Jr. officiating. A second memorial service will be held Saturday, April 5, 2014, at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, Columbus, Ga., after which interment will take place in the church cemetery. Shelley was last employed full-time by The Episcopal Diocese of Maryland as a Priest and was the Vicar of Holy Cross, Street, Md., before retiring in February 2012 with 21 years in the ministry. She graduated from Bethany College, W.Va., in 1964 and Virginia Theological Seminary with a Masters in Divinity in 1990. In 1986, she became the first Director of the Columbus Alliance For Battered Women. She was Priest-In-Charge of St. Andrews, Lawrenceville, Va., Priest-In-Charge of four collective congregations in Williamsport, Pa., then Vicar for St. Mary's, Williamsport, before serving at Holy Cross, Md. In addition to her husband, Dennis, Shelley is survived by a brother, Malcolm Baer, Jr. and his wife, Jane Baer, a nephew, Jonathon, and niece, Lindsey, all of Columbus, Ga.; and a sister, Mary Lou Grover and her husband, Brad of Greenville, Ga. Shelley is also survived by a stepson, Matthew and his wife, Heather Shoemaker, two step grandchildren, Zoey and Miley, and a stepdaughter, Melissa and her husband, William Bechtel, all of Selinsgrove. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Grace Memorial Episcopal Church, 1024 Main St., Darlington, Md. 21034. J.J. Hartenstein Mortuary, Inc., Stewartstown, is assisting the family with arrangements.
