Cowburn, Jr. YORK William H. Cowburn, Jr., entered into rest on Sunday, February 24, 2013 at his residence with his family by his side. Born on January 7, 1955 in Bainbridge, Md., he was the son of Mary Jane (Sheetz) Cowburn, and the late William H. Cowburn, Sr. Upon graduation from William Penn High School in 1972, Bill worked for a short time at York Borg-Warner Co., and then served York City as a Police Cadet. He then worked as an armored car driver with Loomis Armored Car while pursing an accounting degree from York College. Upon graduating in 1992, Bill entered employment with the State Comptroller's Office. He was most recently employed with the Pennsylvania School Employees Retirement System. Bill enjoyed playing and watching tennis. He enjoyed growing fresh vegetables in the garden. He loved their dog, Rusty, who died last summer. He loved the music of Bob Dylan and Frank Sinatra. He loved to travel and learn about the history of our states and our country. His latest trip was whale watching in Hawaii with his wife to celebrate a wedding anniversary. His books of choice were biographies of our Presidents and noteworthy historical events. He was highly respected for his knowledge in numismatics and has given countless seminars on the hobby, published various articles and has received numerous awards for his achievements in this field. Bill's life can be best summarized by this quote: "The fact that I can plant a seed and it becomes a flower, share a bit of knowledge and it becomes another's, smile at someone and receive a smile in return, are to me continual spiritual exercises." ~ Leo Buscaglia Bill is survived by his wife and best friend, Laura (Fischbeck) Cowburn; his mother; his brother, Robert and wife Susan of Windsor; brother-in-law, C. Lee Fischbeck and wife Kathleen (Sullivan) of Manasquan, N.J.; sister-in-law, Linda and husband Richard Rizzolo of West Orange, N.J.; sister-in-law, Lois and husband Brian Redmond of Shavertown; 12 nieces and nephews; and 17 great nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by one nephew. A gathering of friends and family to celebrate Bill's life will be held at Kuhner Associates Funeral Directors, Inc., 863 South George St., York (the former Hahn Home), Saturday, March 2, 2013 from 9:30 to 11 a.m. with a memorial service beginning at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the York County SPCA, 3159 Susquehanna Trail North, York, PA 17406, or to the York County
