YORK William (Bill) Otis Myers, 86, a retired Department of Navy civil servant, died on Monday, December 31, 2012 at Manor Care Nursing Home in York. Bill was born in Goodyear on July 25, 1926, a son of the late Harry and Blanche (Shambaugh) Myers. He graduated from Boiling Springs High School, where he played offensive guard on the first high school football team and was an excellent left-handed pitcher logging several no-hitters. He was drafted into the U.S. Navy and served honorably on the USS Orleck DD886 throughout the Pacific Theater. Following his Navy service, Bill worked for almost 40 years at the Mechanicsburg Naval Depot retiring in 1985 as a Supervisory Industrial Specialist. After living in Boiling Springs for most of his working career, Bill retired to Naples, Fla., where he enjoyed playing tennis and saltwater fishing. Prior to entering Manor Care in May 2008, he lived in Glen Rock. Bill was a die-hard Phillies and Penn State football fan having season tickets to both. He was also a long-term member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Boiling Springs. Bill is survived by his daughter, Vicki Hoover and husband Lou of Buxton, N.C.; daughter, Wanda Lind and husband Jim of Scituate, Mass.; son, Mike Myers and wife Christie Walsh-Myers of Baltimore, Md.; grandsons, Mike Hoover, Casey Lind, and Billy Myers; granddaughters, Abby Hoover, Danielle Lind, Mary-Stuart Myers; and sister, Mary Lou Andrews of Mountville. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Geiple Funeral Home, Inc., 53 Main St., Glen Rock, with Rev. Edward Robbins officiating. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. A visitation for family and friends will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.
