YORK Gary L. Zimmerman entered into Christ's eternal rest on Sunday, November 11, 2012, at York Hospital. He was the husband of the late Susan E. (Johnson) Zimmerman Taylor, to whom he was married for 24 years. Born in York, on July 13, 1936, Gary was the only child of the late Burton A. and Marguerite D. (Becker) Zimmerman. Growing up in York, at 828 S. Pine St., Gary graduated from William Penn Senior H.S. in 1954 and York Junior College in 1956. He was employed as a postal manual distributor for the York Post Office, retiring in 2004 with 48 years of service. Gary attended services at York Alliance Church. He was a member of the York White Rose Bridge Club and enjoyed the game of competitive checkers, playing in the PA State checker tournament. He also enjoyed attending fine art shows and collecting butterflies from throughout the world. Mr. Zimmerman is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Kristin K. Long Launsbach and husband, Michael of Seaford, Va.; a son, Mr. Eric D. Zimmerman of Dallastown; and three grandchildren, Jennifer A. Long of York, Kaitlyn E. Long of Red Lion, and Abigail G. Launsbach of Seaford, Va. There will be no viewing. Following cremation with Workinger-Semmel F.H. & Crematorium, Inc., York, a formal dress Memorial Service, conducted by Pastor Peter Posca, will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, November 16, at the York Alliance Church, 501 Rathon Road, York. Burial will follow in Susquehanna Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Missionary Fund at the York Alliance Church, 501 Rathon Road, York, PA 17403.
