SHREWSBURY Patricia A "Pat" (McElroy) Fischer, 63, died Monday, January 27, 2014, at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. She was the wife of George J. Fischer, Jr., to whom she was married 43 years. There will be a viewing from 1 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, February 2, 2014, at J.J. Hartenstein Mortuary, Inc., 24 N. Second St., New Freedom. A funeral liturgy will begin at 11 a.m. Monday, February 3, at St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, 315 N. Constitution Ave., New Freedom, with the Rev. Joshua R. Brommer officiating.. Interment will follow the service at St. John the Baptist Cemetery. Born August 10, 1950, in Baltimore, Md., Pat was the daughter of the late Bernard V. and Myrna (Petzold) McElroy, Sr. Pat retired from Verizon in Harrisburg in January 2006. She was a member of St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, New Freedom. She was involved with various church activities there, such as religious education, volunteering as a CCD teacher, and her true passion, the opportunity to serve as Eucharistic Minister. Pat enjoyed crafting, especially with her grandchildren. She and her husband loved traveling, including trips to the Grand Canyon, Alaska, Italy, and the Daytona 500 in Florida. Pat completely treasured her husband, children, and grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she is survived by a daughter, Monnette M. Schorn and her husband, Jerry of Hatfield, Montgomery County; a son, Shawn J. Fischer and his wife, Amanda of Manchester; three grandchildren, Zachary, Jami, and Sydni Schorn; a brother, Bernard V. McElroy, Jr. of Baltimore, Md.; a sister, Bernadette M. McElroy of Baltimore, Md.; her father-in-law, George J. Fischer, Sr.; and her "grandpuppy," Sadie. She was predeceased by a son, George J. Fischer, III. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Pat's name may be made to St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, 315 N. Constitution Ave., New Freedom, PA 17349.
