YORK Ronald E. Henry, 78, of West Manchester Township, transitioned to his heavenly home on Saturday, February 15, 2014. He was the husband of Janet (Klinedinst) Henry. Together they shared more than 42 years of marriage. Ron was born in Hanover on July 17, 1935, the son of the late Gerald G. and Lillian M. (Shunk) Henry. He was a 1953 graduate of Spring Grove High School and earned both the standard and graduate diplomas from the American Savings and Loan Institute, Chicago, Ill. He worked for York Federal Savings and Loan Association for more than 38 years and retired as Asst. Vice President and Accounting Manager. He served his country by completing a tour of active duty with the U.S. Army at Ft. Jackson, S.C. in 1960 and was awarded a citation for meritorious service. Ron was an active member of St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in Spring Grove for more than 68 years, where he served in many roles. Nearest to his heart were singing in the choir and participating on five mission trips to Piedras Negras, Mexico to build homes for the needy. Other memberships included a life membership in the Spring Grove Area Historical Preservation Society. A past president, he continued as an active volunteer for the Society's Museum Committee. He was a former treasurer and current member of the West Manchester Mall Walkers. Surviving besides his wife are a daughter, Ann E. Metzler and husband Jonathan; a son, Mark E. Henry and wife Nicole; as well as three grandchildren, Caleb and Katherine Metzler and Brynn Henry, all of York. Also surviving are two brothers, Gerald S. Henry and wife Carol of Lancaster, and William K. Henry and wife Carol of Spring Grove, in addition to nieces and nephews. A "Celebration of the Resurrection" funeral service is scheduled for Thursday, February 20, 2014 at 11 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 201 S. Main St., Spring Grove, with the Rev. Daniel V. Biles III officiating. Interment will immediately follow in St. Paul (Wolf's) Cemetery in West Manchester Township. Viewings will be held on Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Irwin-Beck Funeral Home & Cremation Service Inc., 175 N. Main St., Spring Grove, and on Thursday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church.
