YORK Ira M. Slonaker, 88, entered into rest Thursday, March 13, 2014, at his home. He was the husband of the late Annabelle T. (Smith) Slonaker. A visitation will be 9 to 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 18, at St. Joseph Church, 2935 Kingston Road, York. The Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10 a.m. at the church with the Rev. James Menkhus OFM Cap as celebrant. Burial will be in Holy Saviour Cemetery with full military rites presented by the York County Veterans Honor Guard. The John W. Keffer Funeral Homes and Crematory, Inc., 902 Mt. Rose Ave., York, is assisting the family. Mr. Slonaker was born in Fairfield, a son of the late Andrew and Ruth (Sprenkle) Slonaker. He was a letter carrier with the U.S. Post Office in York. He served in the U.S. Army Infantry during WWII. He was a member of St. Joseph Church and was a graduate of Fairfield High School. Ira is survived by his children, Mary Rutters of Orlando, Fla., Jo Ann Daugherty of Salem, Va., and James E. Slonaker of York; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; sisters, Janet Brenner and Helen Stahley; and brother, Harry Slonaker.
