Ann Marie Ferro Obituary
YORK Ann Marie (Mirasola) Ferro, wife of the late Carmen A. Ferro, died peacefully surrounded by her family, in the early morning of Monday, March 31, 2014, at the age of 91. Ann was born in Wellsburg, W.Va., on January 20, 1923, the beloved daughter of Alfonso and Jessie Mirasola. She is survived by her two sons, Anthony Ferro and Philip Ferro; and a daughter, Jessica Borsa. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Kristine Shue. In addition to her children, she is survived by her sons-in-law, Alfred Shue and Joseph Borsa, II, and daughters-in-law, Phyllis Ferro and Lynn Ferro. Finally, she leaves her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Luke Ferro (Amy), Jessie Shue, Christopher Ferro (Angela), John Shue (Penny), Anne Borsa, Nicholas Borsa, Nicole Ferro (fiance, Devin Long), Lauren Ferro, Rachel Ferro, Dominic Ferro, Michael Ferro, and Mariah Shue. Ann was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church and volunteered at the Perpetual Adoration Chapel for many years. Carmen and Ann owned and operated Ferro's Shoe Repair in the York County Shopping Center from 1960-1972. Upon closing their shop, Ann started a new career as Unit Secretary in the operating room at York Hospital where she worked for over 30 years, retiring at age 80. Over the years she mentored, mothered, and befriended many generations of York's finest physicians. Ann was the life of every party she ever attended and adored a good audience. She was a world class cook whose favorite moments in life included a packed house with a table full of family and food. Her greatest joy in life was always her family. Her home was affectionately referred to as "grand central station" and was a hub for constant traffic of family and friends. She was a loving Mother who cared deeply for her four children. As "Nonna", she was a constant presence in the lives of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was always the glue that held things together and the rock that weathered all storms. For her entire family, she was their greatest advocate, constant guardian, and trusted confidant. Viewings will be held from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday, April 6, at John W. Keffer Funeral Homes and Crematory, Inc., 2114 W. Market St., York, and on Monday, April 7, from 9 to 10 a.m. at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, 231 S. Beaver St., York. A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10 a.m. on Monday at St. Patrick's with the Rev. Keith Carroll as celebrant. Burial will be in Holy Savior Cemetary. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her honor to Leg Up Farm, 4880 N. Sherman St., Mt. Wolf, PA 17347-9637. KefferFH.com
