EAST PROSPECT William Mittel, 87, died at York Hospital on Thursday, April 10, 2014. He was the husband of the late Doris M. (Keller) Mittel. Born September 15, 1926, in Lower Windsor Township, he was the son of the late Benjamin and Ivy (Dellinger) Mittel. Mr. Mittel was a U.S. Navy veteran of WWII having served as an Amphibious Officer in Okinawa. He was employed as an auto mechanic and service manager for 34 years. He later retired in 1989 as an employee of the York County Government. Mr. Mittel was a longtime member of Ebenezer Baptist Church at Long Level, a member of the Red Lion American Legion Post 453, and the Hellam VFW Post 7045. He is survived by a son, Wayne E. Mittel and his wife, Stephanie of York; a daughter-in-law, Maxine Mittel of York; three grandchildren, Tracy Mummert of York, Rebecca Thompson of York, and Erik Mittel of Dover; and four great-granddaughters. Mr. Mittel was preceded in death by a son, Dennis W. Mittel, who died in December 2012. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, April 17, 2014, at the Etzweiler Funeral Home, 1111 E. Market St., York, with Pastor Mark Fillmore officiating. A viewing will be held from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial with graveside military rites by the York County Veterans Honor Guard will be held in Riverview Cemetery in East Prospect.
