YORK Luis Reyes, 72, entered into the presence of God, on Thursday, April 24, 2014, from the York Hospital. He was the husband of Rosa E. (Gonzalez) Reyes with whom he shared fifty years of marriage. He fought a courageous battle with ALS. Born on October 11, 1941, in Juana Diaz, Puerto Rico, he was the son of the late Virginia Sanchez and Pablo Reyes. He was employed by Peter Paul Cadbury. "Papa", as he was fondly known , loved his family, especially his grandchildren. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, playing softball, a good game of dominoes, and watching golf. He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Rosa, children, Ivian Reyes, Grisel Reyes and fiance, Eric Smaw, Luis A. Reyes, Jose A. Reyes, Rosa I. and husband Luis A. Torres, Jr., a daughter-in-law, Rosalia Garcia, an "adopted" daughter, Evelyn Burgos, grandchildren, Anthony Garcia, Bianca Garcia, Brandon Garcia, Andrea Prather, Luis A. Torres,III, Thalia Torres. Ilianny Lorenzo, Nayeli Reyes, Jerzey Reyes-Weedon, two great-grandchildren, Javis Vargas, Janiel Vargas, siblings, Gloria Reyes, Frank Reyes, Jorge Reyes, Vincente Reyes, Santos Reyes, Maria Reyes, Juantia Reyes, two sisters-in law, Gladys Gonzalez, Sharlene Reyes and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by a sister, Luzelenia Reyes. A viewing will be from 10 to 11 a.m. on Tuesday, April 29, 2014, at the Saint Mary's Catholic Church, 309 S. George St., York. The Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Jonathan P. Sawicki officiating. Interment will be in Susquehanna Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the ALS Association,1275 K Street, NW, Suite 250, Washington D.C., 20005. Gladfelter Funeral Home, Inc. is entrusted with the arrangements.
