MIDDLETOWN Evelyn R. (Richardson) Garner, formerly of York Twp., entered into eternal rest with her loving daughter Linda by her side on Mon., May 19 at 3:50 p.m. at Frey Village Retirement Center in Middletown, after a brief illness at the age of 95 . She was the wife of the late Harold W. Garner who entered into rest on January 2, 2005. Evelyn was born in Rising Sun, Md. on November 22, 1918, and was the daughter of the late William Thomas, Sr. and Ada Ann (Brown) Richardson, and her late stepmother, Elsie E. (Landis) Richardson. Evelyn was a graduate of the Fawn Township Vocational School Class of 1936. She then went to Millersville State Teachers College, graduating in 1940. She began her career in a one-room school (Ore Valley) in York Township, and spent her teaching years at a York Township Elementary School, retiring in 1976 after 35 years of teaching for Dallastown Area School District. She was a longtime member of Otterbein United Methodist Church of Spry, where she sang in the choir for many years and she was active in the United Methodist Woman; a member of the former Business and Professional Woman in Dallastown, York County Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees; National Education Association, Pennsylvania State Education Association; Dallastown American Legion Post #605 Ladies Auxilary. During her tenure of teaching and after her retirement, she would organize and would host bus trips with the Red Lion Bus Company. Survivors are a daughter, Linda A. Grove and her friend Larry Brown, both of Harrisburg; 2 sisters-in-law, Mrs. Janet Keeley of Monroe, N.Y. and Mrs. Judy Richardson of York; nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a brother, William Thomas Richardson, Jr. A viewing will be held Friday, May 23, from 9 to 10 a.m. at Otterbein United Methodist Church of Spry, 50 School St., York. Burg Funeral Home, Inc., 134 W. Broadway, Red Lion, will be assisting the family with the arrangements. A Service of Honor and Praise for Evelyn will be on Fri. at 10 a.m. at the church. Her pastor, the Rev. Dr. Ken Loyer will officiate. Burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be offered to Otterbein United Methodist Church, 50 School St., York, PA 17402. Evelyn married Harold on April 12, 1946. She enjoyed traveling to other countries in Europe, Australia and New Zealand. She was a wonderful loving Mother to Linda and will be missed greatly by all who knew and loved her.
