YORK Dorothy E. Hollensteiner, 93, of Spring Garden Twp., died at the York Hospital on Saturday, May 17, 2014. She was the wife of the late Rupert Anthony Hollensteiner. Dorothy was born in Reading, to her parents, the late Howard and Effie Shellenberger. Dorothy was a 1938 graduate of Shillington High School and got married soon after. A number of years later, the family moved to York and Dorothy's life changed dramatically. She graduated from York College in 1974 with a B.A. in Psychology and graduated Magna Cum Laude. She continued her education with an M.A. in Psychology at Millersville University. She then worked for the Community Progress Council as a Child Psychologist until she retired in 1987. After Dorothy retired she became active in volunteer work at Normandie Ridge and joined many of the groups at her church. Her many interests lead her to St. Paul's Lutheran Church, the Christian Science Church, the Church of the New Jerusalem in Bryn Athyn, Pa., and then to her current church, Aldersgate United Methodist Church. Dorothy is survived by her loving son, Lee A. Hollensteiner of York, and their family Pekingese, Peach Blossom. She was predeceased by a sister, Betty (Shellenberger) Marx. Following cremation, a memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday May 23, 2014, at Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 397 Tyler Run Road, York, PA 17403. The Rev. Paul W. Baughman, her pastor, will officiate the service. Memorial contributions may be made to the Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 397 Tyler Run Road, York, PA 17403; Martin Library, 159 E.
