NEW FREEDOM/YORK Joyce left her residence on Thursday, May 22, 2014, to go to her eternal home and receive her wings as she joins all the angels that went before her. She was the widow of Sterling Fox, Sr., who passed away October 18, 2008. Joyce was born in York, February 24, 1932, the eldest daughter of Paul and Martha (Foller) Gemmill. She lived in Windsor Park as a child, then moved to New Freedom with her family. She graduated from New Freedom High School in 1950, and attended Business School in York. She married and raised her family in New Freedom and lived there until 2007, when she then moved to York with her husband and son. Her employment years included work at AMP Inc., Westinghouse in Cockeysville, Md., American Insulator in New Freedom, The Lutheran Home, and True Value Hardware in Shrewsbury. After retirement, she and her husband enjoyed the beach, and bought a winter home in Myrtle Beach to vacation with family and friends. She enjoyed Ocean City, Md., and loved going to casinos. She also loved playing Texas Hold'em with family and friends. Joyce and her husband were avid golfers in the Glen Rock area, belonging to Bon Air Country Club. Joyce's claim to fame in the golf world was when she shot a hole-in-one in Myrtle Beach. She is survived by a son, Sterling Fox, Jr., and a daughter, Gale (Fox) Bowman and her husband, Ed, all of York; grandsons, Paul and Wyatt Bowman of York, and Derek Bowman and his wife, Lori of Dover; and her great- grandchildren, Brittany, Brady, and Brooke Bowman of Dover. She is also survived by a sister, Miriam Winter of Florida, Georgia, and Hershey; a brother-in-law, Wilbur Eaton of York; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and good friends, including a very good family friend, Betty Lou Ort. Joyce was a life-long member of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, 175 E. Main St., New Freedom, and her wish was to have her final service from there. A Celebration of Life Service will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 31, 2014, with a Viewing from 10 to 11 a.m. from the church, at the address above. The Rev. George M. Schneider and a retired Minister and family friend, Pastor Charles Hull, will be officiating. There will also be a viewing on Friday, May 30, 2014, from 6 to 9 p.m. at J.J. Hartenstein Mortuary, Inc., 24 N. Second St., New Freedom. Burial will follow the service in New Freedom Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, P.O.
