Jere E. Eckenroth Obituary
YORK Jere E. Eckenroth, 70, died at home on Friday, June 6, 2014, after a long battle with cancer. He was surrounded by family. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Suzanne K. (Evans) Eckenroth, and their two children, Shelly L. Eckenroth and Mathew A. Eckenroth, his daughter-in-law, Suzanne Teves Eckenroth and their three children, all of York. He is also survived by his mother, Lucy E. Eckenroth of Winston-Salem, N.C., and brother, Gary L. Eckenroth of Lewisville, N.C. Jere was a lifetime educator, beginning his career as a teacher in 1965 at Caesar-Rodney School District in Delaware, and retiring as a principal after serving the school districts of Lower Dauphin in Hummelstown (1974-1986) and York Suburban in York (1986-2000) for more than 26 years. In post-retirement, Jere also held interim principal positions at Southern York County School District in Glen Rock and Penn Manor School District in Millersville between 2000-2007. A visitation will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Friday at the John W. Keffer Funeral Homes and Crematory, Inc., 2114 W. Market St., York, followed by a 3 p.m. memorial service at the funeral home. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family.
