YORK Clyde E. Rickard, Jr. 81, formerly of Dubois, Pa., passed away at the M.S. Hershey Medical Center on Monday, June 16, 2014. He was the husband of Ann L. (Kirch) Rickard. Clyde and Ann celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary on July 12, 2013. Clyde was born in Pittsburgh, to his parents, the late Clyde E. and Anna G. (Sanderbeck) Rickard. Clyde was raised in Pittsburgh and graduated from Allegheny College in 1954, where he was Captain of the football team. Clyde loved the outdoors and his working career was closely related. He was the vice president of Ideal Products, Inc. and vice president and general manager of the Shakespeare Company. Ideal Products is a well-known manufacturer of outdoor clothing for hunting, fishing, and hiking. The Shakespeare Co., which was started in 1897, is one of the largest fishing equipment companies in the world. He was a member of the Sport Fishing Hall of Fame. In addition to his loving wife, Ann, Mr. Rickard is survived by a daughter and three sons, Melinda L. Haldeman and her husband, Ken of York, Clyde E. Rickard, III and his wife, Lois of Atlanta, Ga., Dr. George S. Rickard and his wife, Jo of Brookville, Pa., and Jeffrey A. Rickard and his wife, Sandra of Lexington, S.C. Also surviving are 10 grandchildren; two great-grandsons; and a sister, MaryAnn Huber and her husband, Ed of Dayton, Ohio. Clyde was predeceased by two brothers, James and Robert Rickard. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 20, 2014, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 2935 Kingston Road, York 17402. A viewing will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of the mass at the church. Fr. James T. Menkus, OFM CAP will celebrate the mass. Burial will be in Holy Saviour Cemetery.
