YORK Betty J. DeShields, 84, went home to be with the Lord, her Savior, on Monday, June 16, 2014, at the York Hospital. She was the companion of Robert Wilson. Betty was born on May 19, 1930, in Muddy Creek, Hopewell Twp., a daughter of the late Julius T. and Myra E. (Green) DeShields. She worked several domestic jobs before retiring. She was a member of Fawn AME Zion Church. The viewing will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday at Shiloh Baptist Church, 740 W. Locust St., York. The funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Elder Robert Cox officiating. Burial will be in Fawn AME Zion Church Cemetery, New Park. She is survived by a daughter, Tracy A. DeShields of York; grandchildren, Larry E. DeShields, Jr. "Dunk", and Marcius E. DeShields "Markie", both of York, Clarence Driver "Tiki" of Texas, Steven Knox of Harrisburg, Marquesha N. DeShields of York, and Jo'Nae L. DeShields of York; special grandson, Blaine Simpson "Babes" of Harrisburg; 23 great-grandchildren; a brother, Joe Louis DeShields, husband of Raejeanne of York; two sisters, Gladys J. Hunter, wife of Charles "Lou" Hunter, and Barbara M. DeShields, all of York; a sister-in-law, Doris DeShields of York; and several nieces and nephews. She had two very special friends who shared phone calls every day until they fell asleep, Lucy Jones and Mary Liz Murray. Betty had twins in her life that were just like her children, Kathy Ravolis and Kathleen Knisley. She was preceded in death by her son, Larry E. DeShields; a granddaughter, Ciara Savage; four brothers, Donald DeShields, Harold "Buck" DeShields, Charles "Chick" DeShields, and Ernest DeShields; and two sisters, Meldora Stewart and Geraldine DeShields.
