SPRING GROVE Ramon E. Altland, 74, passed away at home with his family by his side on Thursday, June 19, 2014. He was the loving husband of Shirley M. (Dubs) Altland. They would have shared 54 years of marriage together on June 26, 2014. Ramon was born in Heidelberg Township, on October 9, 1939. He attended Spring Grove School District and proudly served his country in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged. He worked as a truck mechanic for L&M Pontiac for over 18 years and then owned and operated Rays Muffler Center in Hanover for over 21 years prior to retiring. He was a longtime member of Bethlehem United Methodist Church in Jefferson and enjoyed collecting toy trains. He also volunteered with the 'Special Police" under Gerald Strausbaugh throughout York County. In addition to his wife, Shirley, he is survived by his daughters, Ramona Miller and husband, Dave of Spring Grove, and Karen Altland of Spring Grove; his son, John Altland and wife, Rebecca of Red Lion; and his grandchildren, Hattie, Jacob, Dylan, and Dalton. He is also survived by his brother, Richard Altland and wife, Nancy of Spring Grove; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Robert Altland, Jr.; and his sisters, Mary Bange and Elano McCrobie. A funeral service in celebration of his life will be held on Monday at 11 a.m. at Irwin-Beck Funeral Home & Cremation Service Inc., 175 N Main St., Spring Grove, with the Rev. Martin W. Bovee officiating. He will be laid to rest following the service at Jefferson Cemetery with military honors provided by York County Veterans Honor Guard. Viewings will be held on Sunday form 6 to 8 p.m. and on Monday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home.
