YORK Dorothy E. (Shue) Hess Schwartz, 101, died Tuesday, June 24, 2014, at the York Hospital. She was the wife of the late William C. Hess and the late Lewis J. Schwartz. Dorothy was born in Springettsbury Township on July 30, 1912, the eldest daughter of the late Edward Amos and Anna Elizabeth (Sipe) Shue. At the age of 16, Dorothy went to work as a sewing machine operator and worked at numerous York companies. Later she was a clerk for the former Mason - Dixon Truckline. She was a lifelong member of Mount Zion Lutheran Church and a former member of the Eastern York Senior Center and the Society of Farm Women. Dorothy was very independent, driving until age 90 and living independently to age 98. She thoroughly enjoyed living in Florida for 5 years and traveling to all 50 states She is survived by two daughters, Constance E. Meiler of York, Barbara Ann Hess of Fort Myers, Fla.; a son, Neil E. Hess and wife Dawn of York; 9 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Edna Brothers of Manchester, Margaret "Peg" Smyser of Druck Valley; and a sister-in-law, Emma Shue of York. In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Jon Meiler; a son-in-law, Herman Meiler; three sisters, Laura Heidlebaugh, Marie Wallace, Amy Mann; and two brothers, George and Charles Shue. A funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, July 3, 2014 at Mount Zion Lutheran Church, 2164 Mt. Zion Road, York, with her pastor, the Rev. Brian A. McClinton officiating. Burial will be in Mount Zion Cemetery. A visitation will be 10 to 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to Mount Zion Lutheran Church, 2164 Mt.
