Charles R. Shontz Obituary
YORK Charles R. Shontz, 84, went to be with his Heavenly Father at 2:25 p.m. Friday, June 27, 2014, at his home. He was the husband of Janet R. (Hawn) Shontz, whom he married 58 years ago on January 7, 1956. Charles was born February 22, 1930, in Mount Union, and was the son of the late Charles and Ida (Snow) Shontz. He was employed for 28 years with Imperial Remodeling of York before retiring in 1995. In his spare time Charles enjoyed deer hunting, fishing and bowling. During the Korean War, Charles proudly served his country in the United States Army. In addition to his wife, Janet, Charles is survived by his son, Jeffrey Shontz of Dover; three grandchildren, Beau, Nick and Emily; and his brother, Larry Shontz of Mount Union. Charles was preceded in death by his brother, Robert Shontz, and his sister, Jean Shoop. His memorial service will begin at 11 a.m. Monday, July 14, 2014, at York Alliance Church, 501 Rathton Road, York. A luncheon and time for visiting with the family will follow the service at the church. Burial will be private. Officiating at the service will be The Rev. Timothy Shuey. Arrangements have been entrusted to The Diehl Funeral Home & Cremation Center of Mount Wolf. Full military honors will be provided by the York County Veterans Honor Guard at the church.
