YORK Gerald E. "Jerry" Lehman, 89, died Thursday, July 10, 2014, at his residence. He was the husband of Doris E. (Thomas) Lehman. Mr. and Mrs. Lehman would have celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary on July 17, 2014. Born June 7, 1925, in Emigsville, he was the son of the late George B. and Gertrude (Keasey) Lehman. A veteran of WWII, Jerry was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army in 1946 with the rank of T-4 after 2 1/2 years of service. Jerry worked for White Rose AAA Motor Club for 37 1/2 years and served as President for the association his last 17 years. He also served on state and national committees for the motor club. Following his employment at AAA, he was a tipstaff for the York County Courthouse for 18 years. He was a 1942 graduate of North York High School. Jerry was a member of Mount Zion United Church of Christ where he was a member of the church council. He had been a superintendent of the former Emigsville E.U.B. Sunday School. Jerry played baseball for many years with the Central League. Jerry was a charter member, past president, and Zone Chairman of the Springettsbury Lions Club. He was president of North Hills Elementary P.T.A. He had been a former member of the Lafayette Club, the Out Door Country Club, and the Emigsville Band. Jerry was a life member of the York Fair and had been a member and board member of: York Rotary Club, York Area Chamber of Commerce, Easter Seal Society, American Red Cross, , Senior Center of York, Tourist Bureau, and the Credit Bureau. Jerry was also a member of the White Rose Lodge #706, F. & A.M. and York Forest, #30, Tall Cedars of Lebanon. In addition to his wife, Doris, he is survived by a daughter, Stephanie S. and her husband, Michael Greiss of York; a son, Thomas C. and his wife, Maria Lehman of Lancaster; five grandchildren, Brett Goodling, Shannon Sinopoli, Whitney Barnett, Jarrett Lehman, and Brendan Lehman; and four great-grandchildren, Taylor and Lexie Hershey, and Kylie and Brianna Goodling. He was preceded in death by three brothers and a sister. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 15, 2014, at 11 a.m. at Mount Zion United Church of Christ, 1054 Ridgewood Road, York, with his pastor, the Rev. Cathy H. Sherry, officiating. Burial will be in Mount Rose Cemetery with military rites by the York County Veterans Honor Guard. A viewing will be held Tuesday from 9 to 11 a.m. at the church.
