HELLAM TWP. Ruth Sarah (Wallick) Wantz, 99, died at Hospice and Community Care of Mount Joy on Friday, July 11, 2014. She was married to the late Ralph J. Wantz for 45 years prior to his death in 1994. Ruth was born September 17, 1914, on the family farm in Hellam Township, York County, to Albert and Anna M. (Freed) Wallick. She was a graduate of Wrightsville High School and of the former Thompson's Business School in York. Ruth was employed at York County Gas Company as a payroll supervisor for most of her working life. She also maintained her husband's business records for the garage he had operated and was a former employee of Fader's in York. She was a member of Fairmount United Methodist Church in Highmount, where she was a church organist, a Sunday School teacher, and was very active in the life of the church. She was a member of the York County Gas Company retiree's group. She was active in gardening and preserving the fruits and vegetables of harvest. Ruth had many friends for someone about to become 100 years of age. They ranged from children to persons of her generation. Her mind remained very clear and she managed her affairs almost until the end of her life. Ruth is survived by a niece, Elaine M. Wallick Doll and her husband, Donald; a nephew, Dale A. Wallick; a stepson, Richard R. Wantz and his wife, Ann; two great-nephews, Jason A. Doll and his wife, Holly, and Joshua A. Doll; a great-niece, Stacey L. Doll and her husband, Will Ternay, III; three great-great-nephews, Jakob W. Doll, John C. Doll, and Joseph A. Doll; and a step son-in-law, Charles Murr. Ruth was preceded in death by a brother, Raymond F. Wallick, and a stepdaughter, Audrey Murr. Following cremation, a memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 16, 2014, at Fairmount United Methodist Church, 5835 Furnace Road, York, with the Rev. William L. McNeal officiating. A visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice and Community Care, 685 Good Drive, P.O.
