COLUMBIA Ruth R. (Miller) Mellinger, 86, formerly of Wrightsville, entered into eternal rest after a brief illness, surrounded by her loving family, at 10:40 a.m. Wednesday, July 23, 2014, at Susquehanna Valley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Columbia. She was the wife of Millard "Mel" E. Mellinger, Sr., who entered into rest on May 27, 1994. She was born in Springfield Twp., on September 12, 1927, and was the daughter of the late C. Harry and Gertrude N. (Williams) Miller. Ruth was a homemaker and a longtime member of Canadochly Lutheran Church in Delroy where she taught Sunday School. She was a charter member of the York County Farm Women Group #25 and she was very involved in many civic organizations in the community over the years. Surviving are five daughters, Ruthann M. Palacios (Robert) of Yorkanna, June L. Grim (Rodney) of Red Lion, Dawn K. Kilhefner of Wrightsville, Karen M. Royer (David) of Wrightsville, and Hope E. Dolan of Silver Spring, Md.; a son, Marlin J. Mellinger (Rebekah) of Wrightsville; 13 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Anna M. Miller of Loganville, Treva Stiles of Potosi, and Eva Beck of Seven Valleys; two brothers, Earl Miller of Loganville and Ray Miller of Seven Valleys; daughter-in law, Sherri L. Mellinger of Columbia; a sister-in-law, Mary Stock of New Oxford; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two sons, Millard E. Mellinger, Jr. in August 1972, and Craig A. Mellinger in August 2006; a grandson, Andy Palacios in March 2010; a son-in-law, Mark Dolan in September 2013; and by her three sisters, Leona McCleary, Naomi Bupp, and Helen Sweitzer. There will be a viewing from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, July 26, at Burg Funeral Home, Inc., 134 W. Broadway, Red Lion, and from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Canadochly Lutheran Church, 4921 East Prospect Road, Delroy. A Service of Honor and Praise for Ruth will begin on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at the church with the Rev. Marion Haynes-Weller, pastor of Kreutz Creek Presbyterian Church, officiating. Burial will be at Canadochly Cemetery. Contributions may be offered to Canadochly Lutheran Church, 4921 East Prospect Road, York, PA, 17406; or to York County Farm Women, Group #25, c/o Beverly Stein, Treas., 118 Windsor Road, Red ion, PA 17356. Ruth was a wonderful Mother and Grandmother. She cherished the times she could spend with her family who always came first. She was a very loving, caring, and giving person. Ruth had a beautiful smile that she anxiously shared with everyone around her. She was a wonderful cook, had a gift for hospitality, and could put a meal together in no time at all when someone came to visit or for unexpected guests.
