YORK William A. "Bill" Vassar, 59, passed on to a better life on July 28, 2014, at York Hospital. Born on August 4, 1954, in Weston, W.Va., he was the son of the late Dr. Raymond James Vassar, Jr., DDS and the late Lois E. (Henderson) Vassar. He was a graduate of York Suburban High School Class of 1973. Bill lived as a free spirit and on his own terms, living in New Mexico, Texas, the Yukon and Virginia and finally returning toYork. He is survived by a brother, Steven R. Vassar of Dover; his sister, Nancy L. Bentley and her husband Greg of York; nieces and nephews, Matthew R. Vassar of York, Abigail E. Vassar of Lemoyne, Margaret L. Bentley of Centreville, Va. and Kathryn R. Bentley of York. He was preceded in death by his older brother, Robert James Vassar. A celebration of Bill's life will be held at his favorite watering hole on what would have been his 60th birthday, August 4, 2014, at Barracuda's Seafood Pub, 2246 Industrial Hwy, York, PA 17402 beginning at 6 p.m. Funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family.
