YORK Jeannette Arnold Boyer died peacefully at her home Aug. 3, 2014. She was the daughter of the late J. Raymond and Areta Bailey Arnold. Jeannette was born Oct. 11, 1929 in Hellam, PA. She graduated from the Moravian Seminary in Bethlehem, then earned a degree from Penn State University in child development in 1951 and was a preschool teacher before raising her own family. Jeannette loved music and attending concerts. Irish tenor Ronan Tynan was her favorite singer. She also appreciated opera, musical theater, and classic movies. In earlier years, she volunteered for her church altar guild and was a room mother for her children and volunteered with their Scout troops. She was an excellent cook. For several years she enjoyed summer visits to Block Island, Rhode Island. She lived in several other states, but happily returned to York County, where she was a Bon-Ton sales associate before retiring. She was a longtime Advent Lutheran Church member. Jeannette fondly recalled growing up on Valley Acres dairy farm in Hellam. She loved animals, especially her dog, Rudy, and cherished country life. Relatives remember her as a tomboy and a bit of a daredevil in her early years on the farm. She is survived by children Donald A. Boyer (Kristal) of York; Jeanne Boyer (Charles Halldorson) of Riverside, Calif.; Kathie Foote (Arthur) of Bridgewater, Conn.; Karen Boyer (Charles Campbell) of York; and Christine Reese (Jack) of Pine Grove, as well as eight grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Audrey Miller of Windsor. She was preceded in death by her twin, Jean B. Arnold, sisters Dorothy Beshore and Betty Meals, and her former husband, Harold S. Boyer. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday August 8, 2014 at the Etzweiler Funeral Home and Cremation Service 1111 E. Market Street York, PA 17403. A viewing will be held from 1 p.m. till the time of the service at the funeral home. Rev. Jay E. Zimmerman, Pastor of the Gettysburg United Methodist Church, will officiate. Burial will be at Greenmount Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Second Chance Fund, c/o York County SPCA, 3159 N. Susquehanna Trail York, PA 17406.
