YORK Deacon Wilmon W. Banks, Jr., 79, entered into rest on Sunday, August 17, 2014. He was the husband of L. Adell (Carrol) Banks, with whom he celebrated 58 years of marriage. Deacon Banks was born in Denmark, S.C., on February 7, 1935, to the late Ruben (Atterberry) and Wimont T. Banks, Sr. Deacon Banks was a Veteran of the United States Marines. During his years of employment he worked for the United States Post Office. In his spare time he enjoyed reading his Bible, doing crossword puzzles, watching wrestling and cowboy movies, and spending time with his family. In addition to his loving wife, Adell, Wilmon leaves to cherish his memory five sons, Wilmon Jerome Banks, Bishop J.E. Wendell K. Banks, Benjamin Phillip Banks, Robert I. Banks, and Mark A. Banks; a daughter, Lisa Kaye Banks; a brother, Kenneth Banks; nine sisters, Betty Donahue, Priscilla Kinard, Georgia May Green, Francis Banks, Estella Bowie, Patricia Banks, Dorothea Alam, Bertha Palmer, and Lorie Freeland; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews; cousins; and a host of other family members and friends. Wilmon was preceded in death by his parents; and four brothers, Ernest Banks, Herman Banks, James Wesley Banks, and Ervin T. Banks. The viewings will be Thursday at Emmanuel COGIC, 825 E. Princess St., York 17403 from 7 to 9 p.m. and Friday, August 22, 2014, from 9 to 11 a.m. A Celebration of Life Service will start Friday at 11 a.m. with Pastor Thaddeus Godwin, Sr. officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Rose Cemetery, York, with full military rites given by York County Honor Guard. Boulding Mortuary, Inc. is handling arrangements.
