Spahr Sherman WELLSVILLE Ferne H. Spahr Sherman, 87, died at 7:31 a.m. on Wednesday, December 28, 2011, at Elmcroft of Dills- burg. She was the wife of the late Clair E. Spahr, Sr. and the late Stanley G. Sherman. Born March 5, 1924, in Warrington Township, she was a daughter of the late Frank and Emma (Sipe) Snelbaker. Ferne was a homemaker who had also worked as a cook at Wellsville Elementary School and as an assembler for Bowhunters in Wellsville. She was a member of New Bethel United Methodist Church in Lewisberry. Ferne enjoyed singing and camping, but, most of all, she loved spending time with her family. She is survived by five sons, Donald Spahr of Towanda, Richard L. Spahr and wife, Sandra of Newberrytown, Clair E. Spahr, Jr. and wife, Evelyn of Wellsville, and Leon Spahr and wife, Kathy, and Jeffrey Spahr and wife, Joyce, all of Dover; a daughter, JoAnne M. Siefert and husband, Owen of Wellsville; a stepson, Stanley G. Sherman, Jr. of Dillsburg; a stepdaughter, Nancy A. Bixler of Dover; 14 grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; three step great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Betty Snelbaker of Dover. In addition to her husbands and parents, she was preceded in death by stepdaughters, Jean Harlacher and Lois Murray; four sisters; and three brothers. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Ferne's funeral at 11 a.m. and the viewing from 10 to 11 a.m. on Monday, January 2, 2012, at Emig Funeral Home, 47 N. Queen St., Dover. Burial will follow in Emanuel Cemetery in Lewisberry. Officiating will be her pastor, the Rev. Matthew J. Loyer. Memorial contributions may be made to New Bethel U.M.
