FELTON David R. Gay, 73, died Thursday, May 10, 2012, at his home. He was the husband of Gene (Briggs) Gay with whom he would have celebrated their 47th wedding anniversary August 21, 2012. Viewings will be Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the J.J. Hartenstein Mortuary, Inc., 19 S. Main St., Stewartstown. The service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at the mortuary with Rev. Andrew G. Wirt officiating. Burial will be in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville. Born on January 1, 1939 in Huntington, Cabell County, W.Va., he was the son of the late Donald R. and Phyllis (Shildts) Gay. David was a 1957 graduate of Lewisburg High School. Following a brief enlistment in the U.S. Air Force, he entered the U.S. Coast Guard and retired in 1986 as a Chief Warrant Officer 4 following 28 years of service. Following his Coast Guard service, David also worked for Ford Aerospace of Willow Grove, PA from 1986-1989 and for Fidelity Technologies from 1989 until 2004. Following his last retirement, David became an avid gourmet chef. He was a member of the Retired Officer's Association and of the then Wild Goose Loran-C Association. David was a lifelong supporter of the Boy Scouts of America, Colonial Williamsburg and of the National Parks Foundation. In addition to his wife of almost 46 years, he leaves two daughters, Lynne M. Cooper and her husband William of Warminster, and Nancy E. Spiegel and her husband Omri of Howell, N.J.; a son, Donald R. Gay and his wife Shannon of Mechanicsburg; eight grandchildren, Samantha and Katelynne Cooper, Natalie, Gabriel and Jared Spiegel, Kathleen, Keira and Regan Gay; a sister, Donna Kaplan of Mt. Gretna; and a brother, John P. Gay of Laurinburg, N.C. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Boy Scouts of America, S 219, 1325 W.
