YORK Richard J. Dawson, 63, died Wednesday, October 3, 2012, at his home. Following cremation a Memorial Service will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, October 9, at J.J. Hartenstein Mortuary, Inc. 24 N. Second St., New Freedom, with the Rev. Mark E. Fair officiating. Interment will be at the convenience of the family. Born July 6, 1949, in Columbus, Ohio, Richard was the son of Jessie D. (Doyle) Dawson of Shrewsbury and the late James M. Dawson. Richard served in the U.S. Air Force in Vietnam as a Civil Engineer during the war. He later worked as a truck driver and enjoyed square dancing and bowling. In addition to his mother, he is survived by two sisters, Patricia Callis and her husband, Thomas of Jarrettsville, Md., and Eileen D. Dawson of Glen Rock; nieces, Nicole, Jayda, and Samatha; nephews, Andrew and Tim; and grandnephews, Jacob and Luke. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to York County Veterans Honor Guard Disabled Veterans, P.O. Box 712, Mount Wolf, PA 17347.
