James W. Koch Jr. Obituary
MYRTLE BEACH, SC James W. Koch, Jr. "Jim", 85, formerly of York, passed away Friday, October 19, 2012, in his home with his loving wife of 62 years by his side. In addition to his wife Sarah, he is survived by three daughters. Beverly and husband, Dennis Weber of Myrtle Beach, S.C., Joni and husband, Robert Coccagna of Winter Springs, Fla., and Kathryn, wife of Jeffrey Grove of York. He is also remembered by his grandchildren, Major Dennis Weber II, DMD, USAF, Sarah Weber, Christina Coccagna Morse and husband, Benjamin Morse, Jamie Coccagna, Amanda Grove Bell and husband, Joshua Bell, and Zachary Grove; and great-grandchildren, Olivia and Benjamin Morse. Born in York, to James W. Koch, Sr. and Ella Eaton, he is also survived by brother, Ralph Koch, and sisters, Phyllis Witmer and Barbara McGrain of York. He was predeceased by his sister Doris Brown. James enlisted in the United States Navy at age 17. He served in World War II on the U.S.S. Wyoming, U.S.S. Savannah, and U.S.S. Portland. Jim retired from Campbell Chain after 40 years of service. He was an avid golfer who accomplished six holes-in-one over his career. He was a past member of The Hawks Gunning Club of York, loved airplanes, aviation, ships, the sea, and old cars. 'Pop' was most proud of his military service. He was a loving husband and father, had a wicked sarcastic wit, did not believe women belonged on the golf course, and endured living with four women and one bathroom for 20 years. Burial will be 11 a.m. Thursday, November 21, at Fort Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in memory of Jim, to Wounded Warriors Project.
