Brandstedter, U.S. Air Force, Ret. YORK Major Francis H. Brandstedter, U.S. Air Force, Retired, 91, formerly of Melbourne, Fla., died at 2:28 a.m. Monday at Country Meadows of York. He was the husband of the late Frances A. (Peacock) Brandstedter, with whom he shared 62 years of marriage. Born October 25, 1921, in Fairchild, Wisconsin, he was a son of the late Frank J. and J. Maude (Stearns) Brandstedter. Brandy proudly served in the United States Air Force and was present at Wickham Field, Honolulu, Hawaii on December 7, 1941. His memories of the events of that day have been preserved by the Oral History Library at York College and in the National Archives in Washington, DC. He went onto a distinguished 20 year career in the United States Air Force. Major Brandstedter is survived by a son, Rodney K. Brandstedter, and his wife Kimberly, of York; four grandchildren, R. Keith Brandstedter, and his wife Alison, Cheryl Skurla, and her husband Marc, Christopher Brandstedter and Matthew Brandstedter; four great grandchildren, Wylan and Callie Skurla, Clayton and Lincoln Brandstedter; and his former daughter-in-law, Andrea Flanagan, and her husband Tony. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Bernard, and two sisters, Bernice and Billie. Funeral services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday at Kuhner Associates Funeral Directors, Inc., 863 S. George St,, York, (the former Hahn Home), with The Rev. Stanley W. Combs, Pastor of Zion Lutheran Church, officiating. Entombment will be in Susquehanna Memorial Gardens.
