YORK Evelyn Rhodes Lauer, 92, entered into rest on Thursday, December 6, 2012, at Manor Care Health Services North. Born April 20, 1920, in Linville, Va., Evelyn was married to the late Lewis F. Lauer and was a daughter of the late Rodney D. and Cleta M. (Rhodes) Lankford, Sr. Evelyn was a member of Dover United Church of Christ. She was a graduate of Dover Area High School. In addition to raising her four children, in her early working years, Evelyn was presented with a Certificate of Service Award by the Army Service Forces, Philadelphia Ordnance Division for her work in the war effort during WWII. She also worked as a Bell telephone operator and was a manager of the former Fanny Farmer Candy Store in the York Mall. When she retired, she worked as a craft director for Pleasant Acres. She was an avid baseball fan. Evelyn is survived by two sons, Fred L. Lauer and his wife Billie of Gardners and Michael L. Lauer of York; two daughters, Alice J. Lebo and her husband Dennis of Camp Hill and Patti A. Lauer of Virginia Beach, Va.; two granddaughters, Diane Metzler and her husband Greg, and Kelli M. Gormont and her husband Eric; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Lois M. Leathery and Charlotte M. Gross, and a brother, Rodney D. Lankford, Jr. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Evelyn's funeral on Wednesday, December 12, 2012 at 2 p.m. and the viewing from 1 to 2 p.m. at Dover United Church of Christ, 45 W. Canal St., Dover. Burial will follow in Salem Union Cemetery, Dover. Officiating will be her pastor, the Rev. Aris Fokas. Emig Funeral Home, Dover, is in charge of arrangements.
