SHREWSBURY Robert Geryl Bowen, 77, died Wednesday, December 12, 2012, at the Barbara J. Egan Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Shrewsbury. He was the husband of Patricia Dianne (Byrne) Bowen. There will be a viewing 12 to 1 p.m. on Wednesday, December 19, 2012, at J.J. Hartenstein Mortuary, Inc., 24 N. Second St., New Freedom. The funeral service will begin at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the mortuary with Pastor Robert S. Harris officiating. Interment will be in Susquehanna Memorial Gardens in York with full military honors by the York County Veterans Honor Guard. Born November 3, 1935, in North Tunbridge, Vt., Robert was the son of the late Geryl Willis and Elsie Geneva (Sawyer) Bowen. Robert served in the United States Marine Corps for three years during the Korean War and achieved the rank of Sergeant. He worked as a computer systems analyst at the Social Security Administration in Woodlawn, Md., for 15 years before retiring in 1992 and was previously employed by the United States Army Joint Munitions Command in Washington, D.C. Robert was a member of Shrewsbury Assembly of God. In addition to his wife, Robert is survived by his son, Robert B. Bowen and his wife, Assegedech of Bolingbrook, Ill.; daughter, Deborah D. Plantinga and her husband, Sjouke of Mt. Vernon, Texas; grandchildren, Brenton Bowen Harrison, Hannah Esther Bowen, Abigya Mulatua Bowen, and Yohannes Shefiraw Bowen; and sisters, Barbara Bowen of Braintree, Vt., and Carla Parrott of Burlington, Vt. Robert was preceded in death by sisters, Beverly Preston and Geraldine Tabor. Memorial contributions may be made to Shrewsbury Assembly of God, P.O. Box 164, Shrewsbury, PA 17361.
