YORK John W. Spangler, Jr., 79, husband of Janet Trone Spangler, died peacefully on Thursday, December 27, 2012, at York Hospital following a brief respiratory illness. Born on May 31, 1933, in Hanover, he was the son of the late John W. Spangler, Sr. and Nettie Ruth Baker Spangler. A 1951 graduate of Eichelberger High School, he served with the United States Air Force in the Korean War era, and was employed by York Corrugating Co. as an accountant for 39 years before retiring in 1998. He married his wife on September 14, 1958, and was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He had been a member of Locust Grove U.C.C. and more recently was a member of the First Baptist Church of York (ABC). He was also an active member of the Springettsbury Lions Club. As a hobby, he enjoyed observing and predicting the weather. In addition to his wife of 54 years, he is survived by a son, David, and daughter, Elaine, and their families. John's five grandchildren are Adam, Joshua, Peter, Emily, and Matthew. A Memorial Service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, December 30, 2012, at the First Baptist Church of York with The Rev. Timothy J. Munson officiating. Burial will be held privately in Rest Haven Cemetery including military graveside rites.
