YORK Charles L. Butcher, 68 passed away in the Specialty Care Unit at the York Hospital surrounded by his family on January 6th, 2013. He was the beloved husband of Nancy C. (Emig) Butcher; together they shared over 48 years of marriage. Butch was born in Red Lion on July 31, 1944, and was the son of the late Philip E. Butcher and Annamae Brubaker Butcher. He graduated from Dallastown High School, class of 1964. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy and was honorably discharged. He worked for Allis Chalmers, Precision-Components Corp. and A.C. Service & Repairs, as a machinist. He was a member of York F&AM Lodge No. 266, York Forrest No. 30 Tall Cedars. He served on the Board of Directors of the Starview Sportsman Club and also served as a Hunter Education Instructor. He was a former Boy Scout Leader, Volunteer Fireman of Lincolnway Fire Co. and Bair Station Fire Company where he served as chief. He also volunteered for Relay for Life as a former cancer survivor. He was a long time member of St. Paul Wolf's Evangelical CovenantChurch, where he served on the church consistory and cemetery board. He was an avid hunter, enjoyed fishing, NASCAR, spending time at his cabin in Potter County and cherished the time he spent with his family and grandchildren. In addition to his wife Nancy, he is survived by his son, Mark D. Butcher and wife Stacey of Newport; his daughter, Denise L. Theis and husband Joseph of Shippensburg; his grandchildren, Katherine and Austin Theis. He is also survived by his nieces Debra Lynn Simpson and Sherri Haneke. He was preceded in death by his sister Phyllis A. Meyers on November 9, 2012. A funeral service in celebration of his life will be held on Wednesday at 11 a.m. at St. Paul Wolf's Evangelical Covenant Church, 4501 Wolf's Church Rd., York PA 17408, with Rev. Matthew H. Stillman officiating. He will be laid to rest at St. Paul Wolf's cemetery following the service. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church. Family services are under the direction of Irwin-Beck Funeral Home & Cremation Service PC, of Spring Grove.
