YORK Donald Thomas Swartz, 84, died on Friday, January 11, 2013, at Manor Care South. He was the husband of Pauline E. (Keesey) Swartz. Together they celebrated 62 years of marriage. Born February 9, 1928, he was the son of Melvin L. and Evelyn A. (Thomas) Swartz. Don graduated from William Penn Sr., High School in 1945 and served in the U.S. Navy aboard a destroyer for two years. He was a sales estimator for ACCO Industries until his retirement in 1971. He was a member of AARP, Briarwood Golf Course, York Lodge #266, F&A Masons; a 32 degree Mason, Scottish Rite Harrisburg, Consistory and Victory AA Club. He was a big fan of Penn State Football and enjoyed traveling to many states and abroad. In addition to his wife, he is survived by daughters, Kathy Fortney and husband, Richard of State College, Kim Bair and husband, Timothy of York; granddaughters, Michelle Dufty and husband, Jay, Kristi Stoehr and husband, Christopher, Abbey Fortney, Rachel Bair, Sarah Lutz and husband, Ron, grandson, Nicholas Bair and wife, Christin; and eight beloved great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 19, 2013, at 12 noon at Faith U.C.C., 509 Pacific Ave., York, with his pastor Rev. Ronald Oelrich officiating. Burial will be private at Mt. Rose Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Faith Church or to Heartland Hospice Care Services. Many thanks to his care givers, Kristy, Laura, Karen, Todd, Lisa and all who were so kind and compassionate during his illness.
