Horner YORK Lawrence O. Horner, 90, passed away at 5:15 a.m., Saturday, February 23, 2013, at York Hospital. He was the husband of Dorothy (Diehl) Horner whom he married 71 years ago on April 12, 1941. Mr. Horner was born January 30, 1923, in Saginaw, East Manchester Township and was the son of the late Oliver and Ethel (Knaub) Horner. In 1941 he graduated from Manchester High School in Manchester. He was employed by New York Wire Cloth in York for over 20 years and retired in 1986 from Caterpillar after 19 years of employment. After his retirement he worked in the Old Main Building at the York Fair. He was a member of the UAW; NRA; the former New Holland Baseball Team in Saginaw and Saginaw Community Church in Saginaw. In his leisure, Mr. Horner was an avid hunter, fisherman and outdoorsman and enjoyed playing pool with members of his family. Mr. Horner proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps during WW II. In addition to his wife, Dorothy, Mr. Horner is survived by his five sons, Tim Horner of Renovo, Charles Horner of York, Darryl Horner of Spring Grove, Bryan Horner and his wife Maureen of York and David Horner of York; his two daughters, Kay Newport and her husband Terry of West Virginia and Rhonda Bredbenner of Abbottstown; his four grandchildren, Troy, Jeremiah, Jamie, Christiana; and his two great grandchildren, Brandon and Trevor. Mr. Horner was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Terry, Jr. and Allen. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11:30 a.m., Saturday, March 2, 2013, at The Diehl Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 87 S. Main St., Mount Wolf. Visitation will be from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Manchester Union Cemetery. Officiating at the service will be his pastor The Reverend Jeffrey Wilt.
