Robert W. Owen Obituary
YORK Robert W. Owen, age 87, of West Manchester Township, died at 7:15 p.m. Sunday, March 10, 2013 at the York Lutheran Home in the Village at Sprenkle Drive. He was the husband of Jean E. (Lichty) Owen, whom he met in third grade. Born October 17, 1925 in York, a son of the late Robert C. and Maria (Warner) Owen, he was an architect, retired from Buchart Associates/ Architects. He also served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII, and was a recipient of the American Campaign Medal and the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal. He was a member of Saint Paul's Lutheran Church, where he served on the Property Committee, Church Council, as a Sunday school teacher, and as an usher. He was also a member of the Shiloh American Legion, Post 791, and West York Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 8951. Active with aquatics, he officiated at US Swimming and PIAA meets. In addition to his wife of 68 years, Mr. Owen is survived by three sons, J. Douglas Owen, and his wife Angelia, of York, Jeffery A. Owen, and his wife Jeanette, of York, and Gregory R. Owen, and his wife Arlene, of West Chester; four grandchildren, Amy M. O'Brien, Cory A. Owen, Neil P. Owen, and Kevin R. Owen; two great-grandchildren, Jacob O'Brien and Declan Owen and two step great-grandchildren, Garrett Mettley and Violet Mettley. He was also preceded in death by a granddaughter, Melissa A. Owen, and a sister, Nancy Owen. Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Friday at Saint Paul Lutheran Church, 25 West Springettsbury Ave., with his Pastor, The Rev. Stanley Reep, officiating. Visitations will be 6:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Kuhner Associates Funeral Directors, Inc., 863 S. George St., York (the former Hahn Home) and immediately following the services at the Church. Private burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery.
