BROGUE Donald Gray Allen, 73, died Thursday, July 4, 2013, with family by his side. Donald married Marla Kay (Krebs) in 1970. Born 1940 in High Point, N.C., he was a son of the late Silas Enos Allen, Sr. and Annie (Johnson) Allen. Donald proudly served in the U.S. Navy from 1958-1964. During his service, he was stationed aboard the U.S.S. Antietam. After his time in the Navy, Donald was an over the road truck driver for more than 45 years. He was well known and respected by many in the industry and became the "Old Man" who mentored many young drivers. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, and two sisters. Donald's legacy lives on with the family he leaves behind: his wife, Marla Kay; son, David (Becky) Allen; daughter, Sonia (Eric) Ammann; granddaughters, Emily and Haley Allen; brother, Randall (Jackie) Allen; and many nieces and nephews. The family will have a private burial and memorial at a later date.
